What does Add Page Numbers to PDF do?
Add Page Numbers to PDF stamps a page number on every page of your document. You choose the position, the style (for example 3, Page 3 or Page 3 of 10), the font size and the starting number, and you can skip the cover page. The numbers are added as real text on top of the existing pages.
How to use Add Page Numbers to PDF
- Choose the PDF file.
- Select the position (bottom or top; left, center or right) and the number format.
- Optionally set the first number, the font size, or skip the first page.
- Press Add page numbers to download the numbered PDF.
When is it useful?
- Numbering a thesis, report or manual before printing.
- Making long contracts easier to discuss ("see page 14").
- Numbering merged documents so no page goes missing.
Example
With "Page n of N", bottom center and "Do not number the first page" on a 9-page report, the cover stays clean and the other pages show "Page 1 of 8" to "Page 8 of 8". If the cover should count, set First number to 2: the pages then show "Page 2 of 9" to "Page 9 of 9".
Good to know
- Everything happens in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded to our server. Very large files (hundreds of pages) can take a while on older phones.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the password with the program you used to set it, then try again.
- Numbers use a standard Latin font; non-Latin custom text is not supported.
